Celebrating 5 Years of hfgphotography

Its kind-of quite crazy, as I'm sat here writing this, time really does fly when your having so much fun. April 2018 marks a 5 whole years of hfgphotography! Like - how did that even happen?

I had no idea when I first started photography, that this is where I would be 5 years down the line, owning and running a business - doing this every single day of the week, every week of the year, and never waking up once dreading going to work.

It all started with a college course. Being truthful I didn't do all that well academically in school, I guess it just wasn't for me, I have a super short attention span, and a creative side that doesn't take instruction. When I left school I didn't have a clue where my career would take me, so ended up doing a college course that I had no real interest in, just to fill some time. Going in to the second year I had to decide what was next, and really, I still had no clue. Then two weeks before the course started again after the summer, I made a rash decision, whilst on holiday playing around with a new camera I had been bought as a gift, I just decided there and then that I wasn't going back to the same dull course I was doing, and jumped in to a high level photography course having had no previous background in photography at all, because, well why not?

Little did I know at the time this would be the best crazy last minute decision I ever made. I went on to finish the course and took a job in a commercial studio straight afterwards. From this came the start of something pretty awesome. For the next three years I had two jobs, a full time office job, a part time pub job and I was building hfgphotography in what ever spare time I had. The summer of 2016 came around and I took the plunge to leave any other jobs I had, and decided to work full time on my little photography business.

So here we are five years on, with a much clearer vision, working hard everyday to make my brand recognisable, and defined by all the values I believe newborn photography should be, natural, calm, timeless, raw and real. The trust my clients put in me to handle their new newborn babies still absolutely blows my mind, and to see them come back time and time again really is priceless.

So cheers to crazy rash decisions and walking down unknown paths leading to some of the best destinations!

Happy 5 years hfgphotography, your lots of fun
