How to shoot for different - Nottingham Photography

Bit of an odd title, I know.

But how do you shoot for different in a world where everyone is trying to be the same?

We find inspiration from everywhere, films, certain smells, art work, food, literally anywhere. And no idea is ever original - someones always tried to do it first, we’re humans, we take that bit of inspiration and try and make it our own.

For so long I followed trends in my photography, partly because of pressure & partly because that was all I was seeing out there.

But what I was producing didn’t feel natural to me, everything felt very the same and churned out.

I wanted real & I wanted different, but not different for the sake of being different, different because I was following no plan or process, no set session timeline, no trends, I didn’t feel like I had to recreate it and make it better than the last time.

I just wanted to shoot what I saw, right infront of me.

All the bits that tell the story, and if Im photographing people I wanted to find what made them unique.

I was so done with trying to nail a certain pose and feeling deflated when it didn’t look quite as good as the last time, or so and so down the road had done it better. It became less about the actual reason I was photographing in the first place.

My different is now capturing real & raw, the thumb sucking, the stretch, the yawn, the biting of the bottom lip - everything that is happening in that moment.

So when you see your images, you know ‘thats your baby’

Every shoot is different from the last & so it should be.

I’m recording your story. I’m capturing you and your family exactly as YOU see them.

So your images aren’t the same as the next persons, they’re personal to you, its your investment.

& believe me, when you free yourself fro what you think is expected of you, you know that little voice in your head, and instead you authentically do you, wether that be personally or at work, you’ll feel a ton lighter.

Life would be an incredibly boring place if we were all exactly the same right?

I would love to tell your families story through photographs, if your in the East Midlands area and looking for a family photographer please do get in contact.

Its SO good to be different.
